What is an audition?
An audition is for students to show their interest in performing a character with some lines, solo singing or extra responsibilities.
In an audition, you and a small group of other students will meet the show director and their friendly team! You will perform some speaking from a script and/or a song that you prepared.
Tip! Get your parents to help you decide what you need to learn. Prepare in advance by memorising and performing at home!
What do I need to know about a JIS audition?
Before the audition, check the Character List and think about the character you may want to audition for. Memorise and practise a script, or a song, or both!
On Saturday the 1st of March. you will attend the morning Workshop, then, you will have a break for lunch before the Audition starts (time slots will be allocated for the day). You will audition in small groups with friends, with a few friendly teachers.
If your timeslot is later in the day, you may leave after the workshop for lunch and return at least 30 minutes before your time.
What happens after the audition?
After the audition day, there may be catch-up auditions for students who were unable to attend the audition. There may also be call-back auditions where certain students are asked to attend an audition to see if they fit a character. If you do not receive a call-back it does not mean that you have lost the chance to be a Principal.
Before the end of term, a "CAST LIST" will be released notifying you of your role in the show, whether it is as a member of the Ensemble or as a Principal. You will then need to attend the PARENT INFORMATION MEETING on Wednesday the 19th of March to receive practise material and learn about the show!
Auditioning does not guarantee you a Principal role, but it is always a great opportunity for you to show your interest, improve your skills and face your fears. If you do not receive a Principal role you will take part in the musical as part of one of the Ensembles. Good luck!
