Jamie began learning the violin at an early age at Pasaknungan Philippines at
Nayong Pilipino in Manila, eventually becoming a student-teacher and conductor
of the orchestra. He became a Full Scholar at the University of Santo Thomas
[UST] under the tutelage of Professor Basilio Manalo and Professor Sergio
Esmilla - both of whom were graduates of the Julliard School of Music, New
York. Whilst studying there, Jamie formed the University Strings for the UST
Symphony Orchestra with Professfor Cecinio Ronquillo, and taught string
classes. He has also attended lessons with Ms. Marissa Borbolla, Professor
Vicente M. Sales Sr. and Professor Carmencita Lozada Filipino – who was prize-winner
of the Paganini International Violin Competition in held at the Vienna Academy,
Italy.
During the 90’s, Jamie attended various ASEAN Music Workshops and became a member of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra. Before moving to Brunei, he worked as a Musician on a cruise ship for the Holland America Line company, travelling through the Americas along New York, the Caribbean, Mexico to the far North - including Vancouver and Alaska. While at JIS, he has organised masterclasses and individual lessons with Professor Kevin Lefohn from the USA and Dmitri Atannasov from New Zealand for violin and cello.
