Using the Chords from Canon in D Create your own 16 Bar Composition
Step 1 : Open the Musescore 2 Template
Step 2 : Complete the 16 Bar Composition - 1 melody instrument (e.g oboe, flute), 1 accompaniment instrument (e.g piano or guitar), 1 bass part (bass guitar or cello) and 1 percussion part (drums or other).
Task 3 : Create your version of Canon in D (see below) :
Follow the guidelines below to create your version of Canon in D
1)Start by changing the rhythm of the 8 bar bass line. You might like to have a verse and chorus pattern. You may also like to use the 5th of the chord or a passing note. See below;
2)Next create a drum part. Try to use at least 2 different patterns and some fills on bar 8, 16, 24, 32 (see video tutorial). You can use some of the following or create your own.
3)Next create a chordal accompaniment part for either piano or guitar.
4)Next create a melody or melodies using notes from the D major scale. You might want to improvise using a piano or playing along with the accompaniment in GarageBand first. The notes in the D Major scale are D, E, F#, G, A, B, C#, D.

5)Finally think about the structure of your piece ... it might be Intro (8 Bars), Verse (8 Bars), Chorus (8 Bars), Verse (repeat), Chorus (repeat), Bridge, Chorus (repeat), Outro.
6)Feel free to add in parts of the original canon lines in the intro and the outro sections.
